DOSBOX-CRT-WIDESCREEN

based on the DOSBOX-CRT project by Mattias Gustavsson

if you hate black pillars in 4:3 games just as much as me, then this project might interest you, it allows you to setup custom borders for DOSBox games and an optional CRT shader

using a config file named crtemu.conf placed in the same directory as the executable you get the following options:

frame - contains the PNG file you will use as a custom border, if no file is found it will use a default frame

crt_effect -  can be set to true or false, enables or disables the CRT shader

big_frame - if set to false, the ingame graphics will fillup the screen vertically while keeping a 4:3 ratio, if set to true, it will shrink the viewport by 10% allowing for convincing frames resembling monitors

use_filter - if set to false, it will ignore this tool entirely and run DOSBox as normal

known issues:
- screensize for windowed mode not properly set

- DOSBox colors are somewhat washed out

- the frame graphics are stretched vertically by about 20%, when you make your own custom frames, take this into account

- custom frames must follow a particular structure, i included some visual guides to make your own

- the CRT shader has been slightly toned down compared to the original made by Mattias Gustavsson, in order to avoid an issue with ghosting

- its based on DOSBox 0.74, so limitations of that version may apply to this too

this is fine for a first version, but im probably going to keep tweaking it

the download includes the custom .exe for DOSBox, 2 custom frames, 2 example images to make your own frames, config file and all the content in the original project by Mattias Gustavsson (demos, custom menu, etc)
